Latest news from MK Lightning

Well done to MK Lightning for their fantastic victories last weekend against the Sheffield Steeldogs and the Hull Pirates. The team had an impressive win on Saturday (10th December) beating the Steeldogs 6-1 and another convincing win over the pirates on the Sunday, with a 4 goals to 0 victory. This now puts them comfortably into second place in the English Premier League with Hull nine points behind them in third place.

Even more impressive were these victories, considering the absence from these matches of Glenn Billing, Luc Johnson and Kubo’s sponsored player Ed Knaggs. They are currently playing in the under 20s World Championships in Hungary and Kubo want to wish the trio all the best for the Championships!

This Saturday (17th December) sees MK lightning face the Swindon Wildcats in the MK Arena at 7pm and will be the team’s last game before Christmas. So make sure you don your festive outfits for the match because after the game there’ll be Christmas Jumper Karaoke in the Tag Taylor Bar and the players will be there signing autographs and posing for your photos.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are on sale now from the Planet Ice MK box office on 01908 540020, or in person at the box office.

Knaggs natters!

Kubo are pleased to be sponsoring the home shirt of MK Lightning’s young defenceman Edward Knaggs. At the tender age of 18, he is MK Lightning’s youngest player. Read on to find out some further interesting facts on Ed from MK Lightning’s website.

Did it take you long to decide that MKL was the club to sign for?
Not even a second, this club is very special to me as it is where I spent the majority of my junior career so it was very easy to sign back here.

In your career, what’s been the biggest challenge to date?
My debut for MKL – I played my first EPL game at just 16; adapting to the speed, strength and skill was a massive challenge for me, especially at such a young age.

What is your proudest moment of your career so far?
Winning a bronze medal with Great Britain U20’s last year.

Do you follow an NHL team or player?
I follow the Calgary Flames in the NHL, my favourite player is Mike Giordano.

How would you describe your style of play?
A solid 2 way defenceman.

What kind of character are you in the dressing room: thoughtful or practical joker?
Thoughtful!

Outside of ice hockey….what takes up your time?
I like to play golf when I can especially in the summer, and also I study engineering at college.

Who was your ice hockey hero as you were coming up through the ranks?
Lukas Zatopek, when I was playing in juniors at MKL – he was the player I looked up to.

If you could be as good at a different sport as you are at hockey, what would it be?
Do you have a sporting hero in a different sport?

Football, my favourite player has to be Ronaldo, some of his skills are out of this world!

Kubo sponsor shirts of new MK Lightning players!

Kubo Recruitment are proud to announce that we are sponsoring the home shirt of MK Lightning’s young Defenceman Ed Knaggs and the GB junior international netminder Jordan Hedley’s away shirt.
Although both players are very young, Knaggs just 17 and Hedley 19, the young stars have already proved how talented they are.

Ed Knaggs
Ed Knaggs has been named in the Great Britain U18 roster which will compete in the World Junior Championships in Romania in April. Ed also plays for MK Thunder and represented Great Britain in last month’s U20 level World Junior Championships in France.  Great Britain beat the Ukraine there and it was during this match that he was awarded the title of best player in the team.

Jordan Hedley
Jordan Hedley learnt his skills playing for MK Storm and MK Thunder before making his debut for MK Lightning in 2012. He had great success with the team during 2013-2014 before leaving the team in the summer of 2015 to join the Swindon Wildcats.

However to the delight of the MK Lightning fans, Jordan returns to the MK Lightning team next season where his interest in the sport first materialised: “Milton Keynes is my home. I used to watch the Kings play when I was just three years old, standing on a step to see over the plexi!

“I can’t wait to get training and for the season to start. I know I’ve still got a few more years to grow and develop yet and I intend to do everything I can to be the best I can be. It feels good to be home!”

Kubo  wish both of our players all the best for the up and coming season and we look forward to seeing them play.

Season tickets are now available for the 2016-17 season – For full details and application form see mk-lightning.co.uk/tickets/season-tickets or pick up a form at the MK Arena box office.

Well done to the girls of MK Storm under 16s ice hockey team for their fantastic efforts against the Bracknell Bees on Saturday night. Although the competitors won the match 11-0, 76 attempts were made at the MK Storm's goal. The team's goalkeeper was therefore deservedly named "Woman of the match".

At a recent MK Lightning match, some of the staff at Kubo Recruitment managed to meet a few of the players of the new under 16s girls' ice hockey team - MK Storm.

Kubo meet some of the girls from MK Storm
Kubo are sponsoring the girls shirts, so it was nice to see them proudly wearing them, sporting the Kubo Recruitment logo. Kubo really enjoyed meeting the girls and watching them in action during their demonstrations in the breaks of the MK Lightning-Guildford Flames match.

It looks like the girls managed to recruit two more players, as the daughters of the Kubo staff were keen to get in on the action and support the girls.

Kubo sponsor MK Storm under 16s girls ice hockey team!

The Milton Keynes Junior Ice Hockey Club (MKJIHC) has been able to enter an Under 16s girls team in the league, proving that the MK girls certainly can play ice hockey!
Kubo are the proud sponsors of the new girls team and will be attending the Milton Keynes Lightning home game this Saturday at 7pm. During one of the breaks, the girls will run a demonstration to display their skills and encourage more girls to take up the sport.

Kubo meet their new MK Lighting player!

As you know Kubo are avid sponsors and supporters of the MK lighting Hockey team. Every year we are proud to sponsor one of the team. Last Monday Kubo braved the bank holiday rain and met our new MK lightning player forward Markku Tahtinen, this season we will be sponsoring Markku's "Away" shirt.

After meeting and having our photo taken with Markku, the kids had a chance to ask him and the other players a few questions before we were treated to seeing the team take to the ice for a team practice, lead by GB men’s coach Russell.

It was a great chance to meet everyone and have a catch up, as this will be our 3rd consecutive year sponsoring the team.

We look forward to seeing how the new team get on this upcoming season and we wish them luck in their first game today against the Basingstoke Bisons!

MK Lightning Ice Hockey Update! Sad to say goodbye, but pleased to welcome....!

MK Lightning have confirmed that Kubo Recruitment's sponsored player Tom Carlon is sadly leaving  to pursue work commitments outside of the sport. He has been offered an unmissable opportunity which sees him and his wife moving to another country.
In a statement released by the club he said " This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. It doesn’t feel like very long since I signed for Lightning…certainly not long enough. I wanted to become one of the core players of the club and saw myself finishing my career with MK, so I’m gutted that I can’t. But I really can’t turn down this opportunity – I wouldn’t want to let it go by and then always wonder ‘what if’. I would never have wanted to leave mid-way through a season, but I have to take the offer now, while it’s there – so I apologise for leaving everyone in the lurch.”

Kubo would like to wish Tom and his Wife the best of luck in their future endeavors and are sad to see such a talented player leave the team.

Although Kubo are sad to be saying goodbye to Tom whom we have sponsored for the last 2 seasons, we are pleased to welcome forward Leigh Jamieson to the Kubo team as we will be sponsoring him for the remainder of the season. Leigh was born in Milton Keynes and has played for his hometown since the start of his ice hockey career. This years ice hockey season has only just got under way and Leigh has already had 6 appearances and 8 penalties for the team!

Keep up to date with MK Lighting on Kubo's Blog and Twitter page @kuborecruitment!!

Kubo Recruitment meets MK Lightning’s new team!

By Lara Gill, Recruitment Consultant

Last week I went to represent Kubo and meet the new addition to the Milton Keynes Lightning squad, Tom Carlon. Kubo are sponsoring Tom this season and thought we should pop along and introduce ourselves to him. The team were being introduced for the first time to all their supporters and were all raring and ready to go for the new season!

Tom has recently transferred to MK Lightning after leaving the Peterborough Phantoms and has had a long and successful ice hockey career and was even captain of the U18 Great Britain Team!

Carlon saw his name and stick go into the Hall of Fame in Canada when he scored the game-winning goal in the world championships to win the gold medal for Great Britain!

Kubo wish MK Lightning good luck as they start their new season- hopefully we will be able to get to a game soon to show our continued support for the boys!

Kubo also sponsor the U16 Milton Keynes Storm hockey team.
